Kick Butt at School
By Vanessa Palencia
Memories of all-nighters and nightmares of failing class give me chills down my spine even though I received my degree almost a full year ago. I laid down my life for my degree, so I know exactly how you feel when you sporadically break out in fits at work or home. I feel you. School can be difficult and draining. But what if I told you that you could feel like you have your life together even when hell starts raining down on you during Finals week? Sound tempting? Then read below.
1. Carry around a planner
Don't assume that you'll just magically remember everything that your teacher assigns you, especially when you have multiple professors. Don’t make the same mistake that I made.
2. Write with your favorite pen
I don't about you, but writing class notes with my favorite pen made taking notes much more fun. Looking at my penmanship suddenly became more entertaining than staring out the window.
3. Get a super cool coffee mug
Being a student comes with an incessant need for caffeine. Whether you take it in the form of tea or coffee, having a coffee mug that you can stare at all day will help you get through those long lectures. Not to mention, some campus stores or nearby café shops will discount your drink if you bring your own mug. It’s a win-win situation!
4. Schedule time to see your professor during office hours
Don't keep telling yourself that you'll stop by, because you won't. Make an appointment to hold yourself more accountable. Seeing your professor on a regular basis will leave you feeling like you just got the inside scoop on how to pass the class.
5. Don't procrastinate
If you really want to feel like you're kicking some serious butt at school, then you need to spend some time studying. There's no way around it. You can try to cram all the info the night before a test, but there's no beating the confidence of someone who's studied hard all semester long. Form a study group or study with a classmate to help you avoid some serious procrastination.
