What We're Listening to this Month: October
By Polarity Staff
It's finally fall!!! The leaves are turning, the air is crisp, and pumpkin flavored things are everywhere. Here's the prefect playlist to ease you into the season. Add these songs to your playlist for some good listening. Whether you're heading into midterms, snuggling into a blanket for a horror movie marathon, or just spending a morning at the coffee shop, these songs will keep you smiling all of October.
Next Episode - Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg
It’s my birth month, and Snoop Dogg is my birthday twin, so this classic is on repeat all of October. Plus, who can resist that da da da da da?
The Calling - The Killers
The Killers’s latest album, Wonderful Wonderful, came out last month and I haven’t been the same since. This dark, funky song with a spoken word intro by Woody Harrelson is a sure classic.
Ahead of Myself - X Ambassadors
X Ambassadors always leave me breathless, and this heartwrencher about being unable to move on has made me cry both happy and sad tears since it came out.
It’s a Trip! - Joywave
This song is more refined than what we’re used to from Joywave, but the hypnotic guitar throughout the song makes it infectious.
Feeling - COIN
COIN are back in a big way with their new album, and this jam gives off surfer vibes that will help you get over that summertime nostalgia.
Look What You Made Me Do - Taylor Swift
It’s a little eerie and dark at first, but once you’ve coupled the song with her music video, there’s no going back. I couldn’t sleep one night because the song was on replay in my head! Talk about insomnia.
Slow Hands - Niall Horan
This is Niall’s masterpiece. He's combined sensual vibes with dance mode and I'm all over it! I never thought I'd associate dirty laundry with sexiness, but...I guess I do now. ‘Slow Hands’ is totally catchy, cute, and has a beat you can bop your head to. Can you -beat- that? Yes, I just did a thing.
Attention - Charlie Puth
Honestly, anything from Charlie Puth is amazing. But if you've been through that whole you-only-want-me-when-I’m-taken kind of relationship or fling, then you’ll relate to this song.
Ready for it? - Taylor Swift
Seriously, are you ready for rapper Taylor? You might need to give this song a few listens just to adjust to hearing Taylor rap, but once you do, you'll be able to relax and enjoy the ride. Like most of Taylor's songs, this one will definitely be stuck in your head and leave you longing for that ‘island breeze.”
Fetish - Selena Gomez
Okay, how many times have you had to deal with people who crushed on you so hard that they were literally low-key obsessed? Then you need to listen to this! Fun, quirky, and all too real, you'll definitely develop a fetish for this song.
Some Kind of Love - The Killers
The Killers’ new album Wonderful Wonderful has been released, and I can’t get enough of it. This song manages to make my eyes watery every time I listen. Lead singer Brandon Flowers wrote it for his wife, and their sons sing in it as well. Did someone squirt lemons in my eyes?!
Tyson vs Douglas - The Killers
Sorry! I have to include another one from the new album! This song is about Brandon’s reaction to watching Mike Tyson (seen as invincible at the time) getting knocked out by Buster Douglas. Brandon says his sons view him as Super Dad, and he doesn’t want to disappoint them. We’re all human, Brandon, even you, you perfect man!
Sadderdaze - The Neighbourhood
I freaked when The Neighbourhood released their surprise five-song EP, Hard. This song is so good! Jesse’s voice, the guitar, the violins, and the sing-along choir make this song oh so sweet! Overall, it’s a solid and great EP. Looking forward to a full album now!
Miss Jackson - Outkast
Because who doesn’t remember listening to this song and waiting to sing the “Oooo! I am for reeeeal!” part. Soooo, Outkast? When are you guys coming back?! We need more cool songs!
Hybrid Moments - The Misfits
When I think Halloween, this song always comes to mind. And this band. It’s short, but has that horror punch to it. A great addition to your Halloween or punk playlist.
Quicksand - SZA
The jazzy and groovy beat mixed with SZA’s soulful and melodic voice couples perfectly as she explains her insecurities regarding her relationship. This song appears in Season 2 of HBO’s Insecure, which is a must watch (if you haven’t yet). Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
Birthday - K. Michelle
It’s my birthday month, so what better way to get in the mood? That’s all I’ve got to say. #YaFeelMe?
Run Me Dry - Bryson Tiller
Another Insecure (Season 2) single that’s extremely catchy. Although the lyrics tell otherwise, this song is on my morning playlist because it has happy vibes and makes me want to dance.
Incapable - Keyshia Cole
If you’re trying to get in your feels, then here’s a perfect song to check out. Keyshia sings about a love that was incapable of loving her or needing her. Her strong vocals will have you feeling like someone’s got you f*cked up.
Never Enough - MIKExANGEL, Trey Songz
Warning: Another *feels* song! Both men talk about love and having someone loyal there for them. They feel incomplete, but being in love or loving someone isn’t part of who they are. I’m sure our generation can easily identify a few people like this, whether you’re the one causing affliction or on the receiving end - no shade.
