What We're Listening to This Month: December
By Polarity Staff
GUESS. WHAT. TIME. IT. IS.
It's finally time to blast Christmas music without getting annoyed looks from everyone. This month's music list leans heavily on the holiday spirit, but we've also picked out a few regular songs for you all too. Check out our latest monthly playlist and then let us know what you've been listening to this month!
All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey
A Great Big Sled - The Killers
I’ve been shamelessly playing Christmas music since after Halloween, and this original by The Killers is one of my favorite jingle jams.
O Holy Night - Nat King Cole
This is my all time favorite Christmas song. I dare you to find a bad version of this classic.
What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve - The Head and the Heart
Romantic and hopeful, this holiday song is perfect for any winter date night.
Roots and Beginnings - Howard Shore (for the Lord of the Rings soundtrack)
I will always affiliate Lord of the Rings with Christmas, and this immediately recognizable song always has me feeling holly jolly (and ready to take on some orcs).
Last Christmas - Ashley Tisdale
Although the lyrics aren’t the happiest, this song makes me feel all types of ways - including happiness. Don’t. Judge. Me.
11:59 - Elijah Blake
I’m not too sure what it is about this song that I like (aside from the chill beat), but it just sounds nice in the background while I’m taking a shower or getting ready for bed.
Haunted - Stwo, Sevdaliza
I recently rewatched Being Mary Jane, and this song still stands out to me every time. I’ve added it to my bedtime playlist, so you know I listen frequently.
Me Enamore - Shakira
First of all, who can say no to Shakira? Every time I listen to this song, I just want to get up out of my work chair and dance.
New Rules - Dua Lipa
This one’s not typically the style of music I lean towards, but after my housemate asked me to give it a chance and listen to the lyrics, I’ve been playing it at least twice a week!
Wolves - Selena Gomez
Selena’s angelic voice really makes this love song shine and leaves you feeling with so much yearning for the person you love or want in your life. Perfect for this cuddle season.
Call It What You Want - Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift just dropped her latest album! While there are so many good songs on it, this one is one of my absolute favorites because, aside from the really catchy beat and Taylor’s amazing voice, it’s a love song that croons about being okay despite life’s turmoils because you have love, and that’s all that matters.
New Year’s Day - Taylor Swift
Another favorite from her latest album! Listen to the whole song first before making your decision on whether you like it or not. It’s a beautiful ballad about being there for your loved one and cherishing them through the good and the bad. It’s about being there when life is going smoothly, like a party, and being there when life gets messy and helping them clean up after the mess. Give it a listen!
Mistletoe - Justin Bieber
The one Christmas song I will play over and over again because it’s so catchy and just so sweet. It may be the perfect song if you’re trying to hint to your loved one that you want to be kissed under the mistletoe.
Pretend - Nat King Cole
This song has such a classical 50s vibe, but it’s definitely a feel-good song both in melody and lyrics.
I Feel It In My Bones - The Killers
The Killers have other Christmas singles, but I gravitate towards this one first. It’s Santa gone bad. I love it.
Joel the Lump of Coal - The Killers feat. Jimmy Kimmel
If this could become a Christmas classic, that would be great. This song about Joel, a happy lump of coal that discovers no one wants him as a gift. *insert tears*
New Year’s Day - U2
Great song to dedicate to the one you love...on New Year’s Day.
I Wish It Was Christmas Today - Julian Casablancas
Might as well put another holiday song on my list because why not? I love Julian’s voice, so this is definitely a treat for any Strokes fan.
A Christmas Duel - The Hives and Cyndi Lauper
This song is about a couple sharing the crappiest things they’ve done to each other, but spending Christmas together anyway...so...happy holidays…?
