The Five Stages of a Family Vacation

The Five Stages of a Family Vacation

By Thao Nguyen

1. Excitement
This is going to be great! Quality time with the fam in a new location! I can’t wait to eat a ton of food, be super lazy, and experience this new place. Family vacations are the best.

2. Weariness
How long does it take these people to get ready in the morning? I swear they’re out the door in 10 minutes back home, but at the rate they’re going we’ll never make it to the tour on time. We are wasting precious time here people!

3. Hatred
If Dad makes one more comment about how the trees here are different than the ones back home I will jump out of this car. How is it possible that I have lived with these people my entire life and have never noticed how irritating they are? Jesus take the wheel and drive us home please!

4. Despair
This vacation is never going to end. Maybe those people who backpack around the world on their own are onto something. I need a vacation from this vacation and when I get home I’m locking myself in my room and never speaking to my family ever again.

5. Nostalgia
How is it already over? I can’t believe our time together is coming to end. Look how cute mom and dad are in this picture. I love these people. I can’t wait for our next vacation!
