What We're Listening to this Month: January

By Polarity Staff

Happy new year Polarians! It's officially 2018. It's time for change, but also time to reflect. Check out our latest playlist which includes new finds and old hits. Let us know in the comments what you're listening to this month.

  1. Read My Mind by The Killers
I got to see The Killers last month and I’m still on a high from hearing this song live. Cause I don’t shine if you don’t shine has got to be one of the most romantic lyrics ever written.

  2. Where is My Mind? by Pixies
Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas. But it had me going a little crazy this year, and this Pixies’s classic sums it up perfectly.

  3. All On My Mind by Anderson East
Anderson East has a voice that sounds like sitting next to a fire with a warm blanket and a hot cup of coffee. If the fire, blanket, and coffee are all sensual AF.

  4. Nothing Can Change this Love by Sam Cooke
:’)  Excuse me while I happy cry over this.

  5. Put a Flower in Your Pocket by The Arcs
Dan Auerbach can make anything sound good, this is a scientific fact. This sleepy, 70s inspired song will have you feeling ready for the new year.

  1. Boo’d Up by Ella Mai
This song pulled me in the minute I heard it on the radio. It started off with the beat and her voice, and then the lyrics did the rest of it.

  2. Permission by Ro James
This man is slowly becoming one of my favorites, especially because most of his songs fit on my favorite playlist: Bedtime. Permission is relaxing and catchy. Light a candle, pour a glass of wine, and lay back.

  3. No Limit by G-Eazy, A$AP Rocky, Cardi B
I try my best to stay away from mainstream music, but you just can’t escape from this song. Feeling down? Listen to this. Feeling in party mode? Listen to this. Plus, Cardi B is in this, so why not?

  4. Orion’s Belt by Sabrina Claudio
It’s winter time and anything rhythm and blues catches my attention (well, almost anything). So far, I have nothing but positive things to say about Sabrina Claudio. She has a soothing voice that’s complemented by her music.

  5. Deep by Emeli Sande
I’m a huge fan of Emeli Sande and was completely caught by this song the minute I heard it. The contrast between the sad lyrics and upbeat rhythm will get you hooked!

  1. I Could Use a Love Song by Maren Morris
Such a sweet song for those who may have a tainted view of love but want to hang onto hope so bad. This song lets you know that you're not alone.

  2. Today by Brad Paisley
A country song with such peaceful melodies, Brad sings of living in the moment and loving someone so much you don't want to think about what may come tomorrow.

  3. End Game by Taylor Swift
I'm absolutely in love with this song! Clearly it's about Taylor and her new beau Joe Alwyn, but the sentiment about wanting to be someone's last just makes it so endearing. It also doesn't hurt that with Taylor and Ed Sheeran as co-writers of the song, the music and lyrics are so good!!

  4. Let Me Go by Hailee Steinfeld ft. Florida Georgia Line
The lyrics and catchy beat make this breakup song perfect for dance parties or girl trips and brings back memories of summer nights.

  5. Truly,  Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden
This is one of the most romantic songs I've ever heard! As soon as I listened to it, I fell in love and immediately wanted to grab my boyfriend and dance with him to it. It's never too early to start planning your Valentine's Day music, and this is a must for that playlist!

  1. Stuck with Me by The Neighbourhood
These guys always kill it with their EPs. They have a new one coming out this month, and this song is included. Their love songs keep me glued to my headphones, and this one is no different. Can’t wait to hear what else they have in store for this new year.

  2. Lullaby by The Cure
I forgot this song existed. I know, I’m insane. Dark, twisted, and creepy, this song reminds me of childhood nightmares. Yet, I can’t stop listening.

  3. Glory and Gore by Lorde
I’m not a huge fan of Lorde’s second album, but her debut album was a strong one filled with heavy-hitting songs that got me through some sh*t. This song makes me feel empowered and like I can knock someone out in a ring….I can’t, but I can dream, right?

  4. Happy Idiot by TV on the Radio
A song about the aftermath of a breakup and trying to get over the person. We’ve all dealt with trying to get through that, perhaps by blissfully smiling and banging our heads through walls.

  5. Can’t Deny My Love by Brandon Flowers
Brandon, I can’t deny your love. Ever. One of his best solo songs. I also love the music video; it was inspired by the short story Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Witchcraft and Puritans, a match made in heaven. But seriously, check it out!
