What We're Listening to This Month: April

By Polarity Staff

It's a new month, and that means it's time for new music. Let us know what you're listening to this April.

Thao

  1. Home - Bruno Major
April has me feeling ultra romantic this year, and this song about finding a place of comfort in another person practically has me crying chocolate and roses.

  2. Pink Lemonade - James Bay
James Bay has a whole new sound with “Pink Lemonade” and I’m loving it. Fun, blunt, and catchy, this song has me more excited than ever for his new album.

  3. G Train - Thirdstory
Frenzied but soothing, soulful but poppy, Thirdstory has me wanting to dance and wrap myself in a nice, cozy blanket at the same time with “G Train.”

  4. Colors - The Head and the Heart
Only The Head and the Heart could make a song about falling out of love pretty and hopeful.

  5. I Wanna Know - Joe
Anyone who knows me that I’ve been playing this non-stop lately. Nothing like some good ol’ 90s R&B to get me dramatically lip-syncing and dancing at my desk.

Elizabeth

  1. Be Careful - Cardi B
This one is a little hard to dislike only because the lyrics are sooooo real (or relatable), and it’s pretty catchy too.

  2. So Sick - Star Cast, Luke James
Now that you know I’m a fan of the show, Star, you also need to know that this song will get you in your feels. Giving too much of yourself but not getting enough? Then this one’s for you.

  3. Sex & Cigarettes - Toni Braxton
Warning: another feels one. You already know that Toni Braxton’s pretty good at getting us in our feels, and she’s back at it again. Feeling betrayed? Then take a listen.

  4. Cards Right - Jeremih
I’m pretty happy that this song plays with a throwback-beat style. The tune gives me a feel-good feeling, and as with any other song I lean towards, the lyrics are just as good.

  5. My Song - H.E.R.
This song just makes me so happy. Especially because it can be interpreted in so many ways. At first it comes off as a confession to a lover, but as the chorus begins, the description and message could not only be to a lover, but maybe to God even.

Izamar

  1. Reflections - The Neighbourhood
I’ve played The Neighbourhood’s latest album on my Spotify account every day since it came out. All the songs are worthy of being on my list, but I’m really feeling this song. It deals with being left by the one you love.

  2. Muted Beatings - Albert Hammond Jr.
I’m still missing The Strokes, but Albert has released a new solo album, and it satisfies my yearning. I love his voice and the guitars in this song.

  3. Favorite Color is Blue - Robert DeLong, K.Flay
If I see K. Flay’s name, I click it, and I play it. Her voice elevates whatever song she’s singing.

  4. Black Panther - Crystal Castles
Not affiliated with the latest Marvel movie, although, after watching it (great movie, just FYI), I remembered this song. This song is suited more for a movie like Tron.

  5. Rebellion (Lies) - Arcade Fire
I can still remember the days when I would listen to this song. High school, studying for a test, wearing written-up Converse and trying to survive the teenage microcosm.

Vanessa

  1. Wetsuit by The Vaccines
A friend of mine recommended this song to me and I immediately fell in love. It’s a rock song with tunes reminiscent of Lifehouse, another rock band that’s dear to my heart, and sings of staying young because time is passing by way too fast.

  2. Head on (Hold on to your Heart) by Man Man
Probably one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever played! Between such an upbeat melody and encouraging message about holding on to your heart and never letting anyone drag it under “even when the whole world’s bitter,” this song makes a perfect addition to your road trip playlist and the perfect uplifting tune to dance to on a rainy day.

  3. Ain’t No Man by the Avett Brothers
I absolutely love this song! I love the hard beat, the motivational lyrics, and the soulful voices of this alternative band. It’s the perfect song if you’re feeling a little lost, a little sad, or just need some extra loving because everything about this song just lifts your spirit up!

  4. Brave by Sara Bareilles
You can never go wrong with a Sara Bareilles song, but this song is so empowering! Like she asks, what would happen if we just say the things we want to say? What would happen if we were just honest and upfront with our feelings? If you’re struggling with these kinds of feelings lately, then listen to this song ASAP!

  5. Fight Song by Rachel Platten
This is such a popular song, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already added to your favorite playlist, but I just listened to this song at such an appropriate time in my life and I am in love! It’s such a great reminder to never give up on your dreams and to never give up on yourself! I’m making this my anthem.
