Vanessa Palencia
Production Manager

Vanessa is an entrepreneur and the production manager of Polarity Magazine. She graduated from San Jose State with a degree in English with a concentration in Professional and Technical Writing. When she isn't writing articles for Polarity or drafting ideas for poems and a potential novel, she is working out at the gym and spending time with her family. She believes in fairy tales, love, and traveling and is a strong advocate for living a positive and healthy lifestyle and promoting body confidence.

Thao Nguyen
Editor-in-Chief

Thao is a technical writer and the editor-in-chief of Polarity Magazine. She graduated from San Jose State with a degree in English with a Concentration in Professional and Technical Writing. She is a Seattle native with a deep love for Lord of the Rings, soccer, coffee, and reading. When she isn’t working on Polarity, she is looking for new places to eat or exploring book stores. She believes that there is always hope, that it’s never too late to make a change, and that happiness comes from selflessness.

Elizabeth Barrera
Content Director

Elizabeth is a technical writer and the content director of Polarity Magazine. She received her B.A in English with a concentration in Professional and Technical Writing from San Jose State University. During her spare time she enjoys watching NBA games, singing karaoke, and going to concerts. Elizabeth believes life’s obstructions are surpassed through calculated risk and persistence. She's a lover of the written word and a strong advocate of social justice, personal growth, and spiritual faith.

Jessica Gomez
Social Media Manager

Jessica is a Public Relations Specialist and the social media manager of Polarity. She earned her B.S in Public Relations with a concentration in Business Administration from San Jose State University. In her spare time she loves to explore new trails and chase waterfalls all over the Bay Area and afar. She believes that giving back is the best way to promote growth for yourself and others.

Ilene Arevalo
Writer

Ilene is an elementary school teacher and a contributor to Polarity Magazine. She received her B.A. in English Education at San Jose State University. She enjoys writing and 90’s R&B and hip hop. Ilene is passionate about communication, social justice, and education. She believes that social change begins in the classroom and that multiculturalism is necessary for global understanding.

Alisha Dhillon
Editor, Writer

Alisha is a long-distance contributor to Polarity. She is currently studying at UBC in the terribly exotic land of Canada. Once completed, her degree will be in English Literature and Creative Writing. In addition to her writing endeavors, she is an actress, absurdist, and comedy enthusiast who thrives on sunshine.
 

Izamar Flores
Editor

Izamar is a technical writer and an editor for Polarity. She received her B.A in English with a concentration in Professional and Technical Writing from San Jose State University.  She enjoys listening to rock music, going to concerts or stand-up comedy shows, and watching Gordon Ramsay demand his lamb sauce. She gets overly excited about getting documents that need editing, loves smoothies and dogs, cringes over misspelled words, and is an ambivert.

Claire Chong
Creative Manager

Claire is a producer and the creative manager for Polarity Magazine. She received her degree from the University of Oregon. She enjoys anything that requires creative thinking and problem-solving. Claire loves her dachshunds, finding new places to eat and shop at in different cities, and developing new ways to express herself.
 

Claire Aquino
Creative Designer

Claire is a marketing student and creative designer for Polarity Magazine. She is working towards her B.S. in Marketing at San Jose State University. She spends her time building her photography business, exploring new coffee shops, and being near the ocean. Claire believes in spreading good vibes, pursuing happiness, and chasing dreams.
